What are comets and how you can make one

Comets are icy balls of water, minerals, dust, organics, amino acids and methanol.

They fly all over in the universe, also in our solar system and can be all sizes and shapes.

You can do at home a real comet, and this is how:

You will need:

  • Bowl
  • Bag
  • Water (comets contain lots of water)
  • Dirt (for minerals and dust)
  • Syrup (for organics)
  • Vinegar (for amino acids)
  • Rubbing Alcohol/Sanitary alcohol (for methanol)
  • Starch (for holding our comet together)
  • Dry Ice

! IF YOU ARE A KID HANDLE DRY ICE WITH ADULT SUPERVISION AND GLOVES, IT HAS A TEMPERATURE OF -70C or -94F !

Dry ice is CO2 in solid form, because of the low temperature it will make a CO2 dust, which is to breathe.

In some countries you can buy dry ice, but you can also make some at home by covering a CO2 fire extinguisher with a pillow cover and then fire it for 10 seconds.

Then you will have dry ice.

First you will need to put the bag over the bowl.

You are gonna put some put 1L of water, 2 cups of dirt, 1 Tspn of starch, syrup, vinegar and ribbing alcohol.

Then put 2 kg (4 pounds) of dry Ice.

You should mix the whole thing with a spoon and then close the bag and press it.

And here is your comet! It has all the details and content as a REAL comet.
