NASA scientists say an artificial magnetic shield could rebuild Mars’ atmosphere

A team of scientists recently suggested creating an artificial magnetosphere around Mars that could be used to shield it from solar radiation and wind!

Many believe that Mars, like Earth, once had a protective magnetic field that shielded its atmosphere. Around 4 billion years, however, something happened and the magnetic field went away. The planet was wet and warm but now is cold and baron.The scientists have a plan to position magnetic dipole shield on Mars. This could create an artificial magnetosphere that would circle the entire planet and would protect it from space. Furthermore, the atmosphere would melt the carbon dioxide ice in the northern polar ice cap and hopefully create a greenhouse effect, causing additional warming of the atmosphere and melting polar ice caps into water! This is ‘safer’ than Elon Musk‘s idea of detonating nuclear bombs over the Martian poles in the sky! 😉
